Camp Fire KIDS CARE 2012
Learning and Fun Before and After School
Children spend 45 minutes at the beginning of the after school program working on their homework. Resources such as pencils, paper, computers and calculators are available for the children’s use. Camp Fire staff will encourage the children to complete their homework during this period and will offer assistance and support if needed. Children who do not have homework are strongly encouraged to bring a book to read during this time.
Camp Fire Kids READ!
Three times in every two week period, a trained, supervised staff tutor will provide reading lessons at each Camp Fire after school site. The tutor will work with two children at a time utilizing a balanced literacy curriculum based upon Camp Fire’s Rocket Reader Literacy program. Kinder-3 grade children will read aloud grade leveled books, have the tutor read books to them and participate in reading and writing games. The 4-5 grade children will read books to one another and with the tutor as well as play grade appropriate learning games.
Camp Fire Skill Building
Every afternoon Camp Fire staff will lead activities intended to help the children develop specific skills in areas such as cooking, science, computers and technology, creative arts, sports and music. The children will work in each area for a six week period and each week will feature an afternoon of fun lead by our traveling Skill Builders who bring exciting and unusual activities for the children to participate in.
